Early Years

The Early Years has an excellent outdoor environment and play area with a wide range of activities to stimulate, challenge and develop each child in their learning.

A child’s first years at school are to be savoured and, at Huddersfield Grammar School, we strive to make this as happy an experience as possible. Our Early Years department takes children from the age of 3-5 years old, consisting of both Kindergarten (age 3-4) and Reception classes (age 4-5).

We believe in the primacy of the individual and understand that the development of character is a prerequisite for success in life. That is why our young people are provided with a rich variety of experiences, both within and beyond the classroom, that allow them to develop as well-rounded, enthusiastic and impressive individuals.

This approach combined with a varied curriculum and regular educational visits means that all of our Early Years pupils get a chance to express themselves and try new things.

At Nursery age, our fantastic Kindergarten teachers and support staff promote play-based-learning, making education fun and engaging for your children. As they progress through to Reception, more structured timetables are introduced, allowing children to start to build a rounded view of what their education will be like moving forwards into Pre-Prep.
