Start your journey here.

Apply for a place at our exceptional school and put your child on the path to a fantastic educational experience. We have designed our admissions process to be as easy as possible and we will happily guide you every step of the way.

We are seeing a lot of interest for entry in September 2024, so please register early to ensure your child has the best chance of receiving a place.

Limited places are currently available for 2023/24 in-year entry. Please contact us for more information about joining mid academic year.

Easy 7 step process
1
Get in touch

Contact our Admissions Team on 01484 424549 to discuss your child's needs, check availability and find out more about our impressive school.

2
Visit us

Experience the welcoming atmosphere of Huddersfield Grammar School by arranging a private tour of the school. Our Admissions Manager, Hayley Thompson, looks forward to meeting you and showing you all that our school has to offer.

3
Book a taster day

This a fantastic opportunity for your child to get to know the school, experience classes and meet their peers, while our teachers assess their attitude to learning. An informal assessment will be carried out in Maths and English for all children above the age of 5 to help us understand what they have covered and any areas where they excel or may need additional support.

Where a taster day cannot be carried out, we may ask your child to complete an online assessment and/or meet the Head on a video call. For Kindergarten and Reception aged children, a short 'meet and greet' session can be arranged before a taster day to ease any nerves.

4
Apply

When you're ready to take the next step, complete the online application form and make payment of the £100 registration fee (non-refundable). This will enable us to begin the admissions process.

5
Receive an offer

Once we have gathered feedback from staff on the outcome of the taster day, and received a report/reference from the child's current school, you will receive a time-limited offer of a place.

6
Secure the place

Complete and return the admissions documentation, along with the Acceptance Deposit of £500 to secure your child’s place.

7
Transition

If your child is due to start at Huddersfield Grammar School, there is no need to feel apprehensive about how they will settle in. You can rest assured that from the moment they arrive another child from their class will be given the role of their 'buddy' and will make sure they are never alone. Of course, the teacher will also take extra special care to ensure they soon feel part of the HGS family.
