Huddersfield Grammar School takes pride in the academic progress and achievement of its pupils. Our results are consistently excellent, and we know that children make more progress while they are with us than is predicted by the baseline assessments collected on their arrival at the school.
We know that when everyone works together to achieve the same outcome we achieve our best results. This includes our innovative staff, supportive parents and talented students all working in partnership to grow and nurture talent so that each individual can realise their full potential.

HGS Pedagogy Model
Huddersfield Grammar School has devised and adopted its HGS Pedagogy Model. Pedagogy is the approach to teaching and the theory and practice of learning. It is premised on the latest educational research, which informs our lesson planning and drives the professional development of our teachers throughout the school.
The golden thread
At the core of the model are the six components of The HGS Identity, the ‘golden thread’ which binds together all pupils who walk through our gates.
Our six components:
In the classroom
The key elements of classroom instruction at HGS, ranging from sharing the bigger picture to modelling, are designed to lead pupils through their learning whilst developing the six character traits that inform The HGS Identity.
Our key elements:
Core principles
The core principles of learning – content knowledge and expertise, assessment and feedback, and deep questioning – are informed by research carried out by the Education Endowment Foundation and underpin all teaching and learning priorities.
The final layer
Academic achievement and well-being outline the impact of applying the HGS Pedagogy model in lessons at HGS.
