Start of the 2016 Summer Term Blog

Dear Parents,

We welcome all children back to school for what is planned to be another action packed term.  The Ski Trip to Austria proved to be a personal highlight of the Spring Term and I am very much looking forwards to the trip to the World War I Battlefields this term.

The Summer Term provides an opportunity for children to wear ‘summer uniform’. This is optional from the start of the term, but compulsory after the Spring Bank half-term holiday. The regulations state that all boys should attend school in their school blazer and tie but may be allowed to remove their tie and blazer, with their teacher’s permission, during the school day providing that they are wearing their short-sleeved crested white shirt. In the same way, girls in the Senior School may wear the crested summer blouse. Summer uniform for girls in the Prep and Pre Prep Schools consists of the summer dress, though should also attend school in their school blazer and straw boater.  As with the boys, the girls’ blazer can be removed during the school day with the teacher’s permission.

As ever, there are some notable community events this term. The Garden Party on Saturday 2nd July will be a spectacular event combining high quality professional entertainment with performances from our own ‘All Aloud’ Choir, our dance groups that performed at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, and some of our award winning Gymnastics Teams. We do hope that you will join us for what is always a special school occasion. There will again be a marquee on the front lawn this year and parents should note the dates on the school calendar of the important prize giving events at the end of the term.

This year we will celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday with our own whole school picnic on the front lawn on Friday 13th May and there will be the usual end of term outings and parties to celebrate another successful school year.  On Friday 1st July we will have our annual ‘Transition Day’ when all children will progress into their year groups for September and when we will be joined by children from outside the school who will be coming as new students to the school.

This year’s Senior School production will be the musical ‘Calamity Jane’ and our Prep School production will be ‘Ali Bongo and the Bandits’. Tickets are always in demand and we do recommend that you book as early as possible to avoid disappointment.  Another popular event for which tickets are now available is ‘The HGS Charity Ball’ on Saturday 7th May.

I would like to confirm that new Terms and Conditions and the fee structure for the academic year 2016-17 were issued by e-mail during the holidays. These are also available for viewing on the school website.

During the summer holidays we welcome back ‘Super Camps’ to provide holiday club activities. Details are available from the School Office and there are a number of special activity weeks including cooking and sports activities.

This term we welcome Miss Abigail Johnstone who joins us as an additional member of staff in the Kindergarten. Please note that the Summer Term ends at the normal end of school time on Tuesday 12th July.

Regards

Tim Hoyle
